Asp Data Center to build sustainable data center in Suldal
Just before Christmas, the Municipal Council of Suldal unanimously decided to sell a commercial landplot at Tysingvatnet to Asp Eiendom AS. The decision marks an important step in the cooperation between the municipality and Asp Data Center to establish a new, modern, and energy-efficient data center in Suldal.
“This marks a clear shift from being a municipality that produces power to also becoming a municipality that creates value and jobs from that power,” says Mayor Mads Drange.
The plans include a data center project on a 56-decare (approximately 14-acre) site at Tysingvatnet. The location makes it possible to utilize natural cooling, stable hydropower, and an environmentally friendly design tailored to a low-emission digital industry.
As part of the sale of the commercial land, the municipality has set clear conditions to ensure local benefits and sustainability. These include a prohibition on using the site for crypto currency production, as well as a buy-back right for Suldal Municipality if the project is not realized as agreed.
“We greatly appreciate the municipality’s trust. The approval enables us to invest in sustainable digital infrastructure while also contributing to local employment and industrial development in Suldal,” says Ole Fredrik Bergseth, CEO of Asp Data Center.
The construction and operation of the data center will create jobs in construction, technical installations, operations, and maintenance. Asp Data Center will work closely with regional suppliers throughout the entire project.
With the decision in place, detailed planning, further approval processes, and phased development will now begin. Asp Data Center will maintain an open dialogue with residents, stakeholders, and authorities throughout the planning and construction process.
The new data center will strengthen the company’s ability to deliver secure hosting, colocation services, as well as private cloud and managed operations solutions. Asp Data Center already operates several data centers and has new development projects underway in both Norway and Finland, with a strong emphasis on sustainability, reliability, and high-uptime services.
